The Erie Beach Hotel, in the eclectic town of Port Dover, ON has been serving Seafood dinners since 1946. They call their main dining room the, “Cove Room” and its the to go-to place for fresh, Lake Erie Pickerel and Perch. The 3rd generation of the Schneider family, now own and operate this well-known Restaurant.
I remember dining at the Erie Beach Hotel as a child. When relatives visited my Grandparents they would often take them to the Cove Room.
A couple nights ago, Mom and I were invited for perch dinner at the Cove Room by longtime friends, John and Donna Lotus.
The Cove Room culinary experience is as I remembered it from years ago – why change a good thing.
A variety of homemade Salads were already on our table when we took our seats – cabbage salad, cucumber salad, ambrosia salad, bean salad, vegetable tray, pickled pumpkin and one of my favourites, horseradish jello squares. A basket of their famous celery bread soon arived. It’s very addicting (and full of calories). We ordered two platters of their lightly breaded perch and it was delicious.
Our server was gracious and very attentive.
Next time you are in Port Dover and have a craving for some fresh Perch be sure to stop at the Erie Beach Hotel.
