A picture tells a thousand words so when you are traveling the photos you take should tell a story.
Its therefore important that you spend some time thinking about the shot you are going to take, the moment you are going to capture and the story you want to tell.
Practice taking pictures with your camera prior to travel. Before a big trip some of my passengers will purchase a new camera but spend more time trying to figure out how to use it instead of taking pictures.
Try to include signage in some of your photographs as this will give your images a sense of place.
I keep having to remind myself, especially when taking landscape shots, that a human element adds interest to the picture. Try to feature local people in your shots, not just tourists. Street photography is rewarding but requires you to pick a spot and wait for a story to unfold.
Photography will make you more aware of your surroundings and when you get home your pictures will bring back wonderful memories so, “Don’t Forget Your Camera”!
