Later yesterday afternoon we arrived in Sugarcreek, Ohio – in the heart of Amish Country.
It was a beautiful drive especially when Betty left the highway and we journeyed down back country roads. The rolling hills added to the visual of pristine Amish Farms along with horse and buggies. I was surprised to see so many open courting buggies on the road this time of year but its Saturday night and the young Amish were heading out for some evening fun.
The Innkeeper at the Carlisle Inn warmly welcomed us. This is one of my favourite places to stay – my passengers love the experience here. The oversize Inn rooms made us feel comfortable – just like being home.
Their large Amish restaurant was filled to the brim. I’m not too sure that those waiting in the long line that wrapped around the front porch of the building were too happy with me when I ushered my group right by all of them – I joking told my passengers that whose waiting should, “Travel With Bradley”.
The buffet meal was excellent – salad bar, variety of hot items. I especially liked the, “so tender” baked chicken. Even though there were scrumptious dessert items on the buffet I upgraded everyone’s dessert so they could enjoy a homemade piece of pie – I selected peanut butter.
Everyone then took their seats in the complex’s newly built 550 seat theatre for the musical, “Our Christmas Dinner”. It’s a heartwarming story.
We slept well.
I ordered donuts from the Amish bakery for this mornings drive North and when I opened the boxes I was surprised that they were, “monster” in size. The hotel staff also provided us with homemade cookies so we have PLENTY to eat before we arrive in East Aurora, NY for Sunday brunch at an historic Inn.
We’ll then cross the border back into Canada.
It’s been a whirlwind journey down to Nashville. I jam packed as much as I could into a short timespan and its been just great.
Thanks to Betty our motor coach driver for her professionalism. A special thank you to my amazing passengers – they are the best. They had to secure their spots on this journey quickly as I was only able to nab 41 tickets for the always sold-out Vince Gill and Amy Grant Christmas Show – there ended up being a long waitlist of people hoping to get on this one but unfortunately it was impossible.
After this journey we will arrive home filled with the Christmas Spirit.
